Expert Instructors

The East Northants Driver Academy is a membership organisation that consists of a small team of independent driving instructors who believe that driving is a skill that should be taught with patience and precision. The team is dedicated to ensuring that every student gains the confidence needed to navigate the roads safely and efficiently.

We are all DVSA Approved Driving Instructors and have a wealth of experience - but it doesn't end there.

Our small team includes a former HGV1 and car instructor/examiner, and a former Police advanced driving instructor and examiner.

'I just passed my test in Kettering, and could confidently say I had an amazing instructor; for someone like me who wasn’t confident behind the wheel, he was so patient and kind and helped me boost my confidence as a driver and always went at the pace I felt most comfortable with. I’d recommend him to anyone looking to book lessons!'

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to learn to drive

The DVSA statistics show that on average, you need around 45 hours instruction plus 20 hours independent driving to reach test standard,

What is the cost of lessons?

Our hourly rate is £38.00 but reduces to £36 if you block book 10 or more hours

What are the pass rate at your academy?

This does vary throughout the year but averages out at over 70%.

What is the optimum lesson length

It depends entirely on you. Most learners gain the most if the lesson is 90 minutes long but some prefer either a 1 or 2 hour lesson. We do not feel that any single lesson should exceed 2 hours. Your learning rate will drop dramatically after this time.

How safe am I or my offspring in your charge

The car is fitted with dual controls and most importantly a dash-cam. The dash-cam is important because as well as recording events ahead of the car it also records clear audio inside the car. Any suggestion of poor instruction or impropriety is therefore captured and kept for three days on the system. Plenty of time to investigate any issues.

Can I use the instructors car for my test

Yes - with only one exception. The DVSA keep a record of every instructors driving test results. We are required to remain above certain pass and fault rates. If we drop below these we will be required to requalify. In view of this we only allow students who are ready for their test to use our vehicles.

This does not stop you taking the test in your own vehicle.

Am I able to keep to the same slot every week

Yes, in fact we plan our diaries based on students retaining the same time and day slots every week. There are times when this is not possible, such as when another student has a driving test on that day.

Check Lesson Availability

We are unable to accept students who are less than 6 weeks away from their test date unless they plan to take the test in their own vehicle.
